"Dolores Claiborne"
|
|
Judy Parfitt has her first major American screen role in "DOLORES CLAIBORNE" as Vera Donovan, Dolores' WASP-like, dictatorial employer of 22 years and, for all we know, her latest murder victim.
The highly regarded British actress may be most fondly remembered for her participation in PBS' Masterpiece Theatre production of "The Jewel in the Crown," for which she received a nomination for the BAFTA Award as Best Actress.
Among a myriad of acclaimed appearances on the London stage, most notable perhaps are the National Theatre's presentation of "An Inspector Calls" and Tony Richardson's remarkable "Hamlet." For her performance in the D.H. Lawrence Trilogy, she was nominated actress of the year.
Her previous film credits include James Ivory's "Maurice," John Irvin's "Champions," Joseph Losey's "Galileo," Randal Kleiser's "Getting It Right," David S. Ward's "King Ralph" and Nick Broomfield's "Dark Obsession."
Ms. Parfitt's television credits encompass numerous productions for the BBC ("The Suffragettes," "Alice Through the Looking Glass," "Malice Aforethought," "The Wife's Revenge"), London Weekend Television (LWT) and Granada TV. She was one of the stars of the ABC-TV sitcom "The Charmings" and has guest-starred on the hit show "Anything But Love." She has also appeared in the provocative Movie-of-the-Week "Silent Cries."
