FRANCES MCDORMAND portrays Andy Bowman, Laura's older sister, who feels sympathy for her emotional plight but is forced to continue the journey to Thailand with a tour group. A veteran stage performer recently nominated for a Tony Award as "Best Supporting Actress" for her work on Broadway in "A Streetcar Named Desire," McDormand also has many important film roles to her credit. These include such films as "Short Cuts," "Passed Away," "The Butcher's Wife," "Darkman," "Chattahoochee," "Raising Arizona," "Blood Simple" and "Mississippi Burning," for which she received an Oscar nomination for "Best Supporting Actress." She most recently starred in the Coen Brothers' latest film "Fargo."
