Australian-born director of photography JOHN SEALE is one of the most accomplished visual artists operating a film camera today, with more than thirty years of experience in the industry. He received Academy Award nominations for his brilliant cinematography on "Rain Man" and "Witness." Seale began his career as a camera assistant with the Australian Broadcasting Commission Television, producing both news documentaries and TV series. By 1976, he had graduated to director of photography on a series of Australian produced feature films. A stint as the 2nd unit photographer on director Peter Weir "The Year of Living Dangerously" led to "Witness," his first American feature as director of photography.
Seale's other important credits include "The Paper," "The Firm," "Lorenzo's Oil," "Dead Poet's Society," "Gorillas In The Mist," "Children Of A Lesser God" and "The Mosquito Coast." He has won numerous professional awards for his skillful use of light and shadow, an artistry most evident with his brilliant cinematography on "BEYOND RANGOON." He is currently serving as the director of photography on Rob Reiner's "The American President" starring Michael Douglas and Annette Bening.
