The Story
Jeff (Giovanni
Ribisi) is twenty, attending community college, working a part-time
job and still living at home in suburban "Burnfield." He hangs
out with two friends - Tim (Nicky
Katt), an Air Force drop-out and petty thug, and Buff (Steve Zahn),
a buddy from high school who works at a pizza joint - usually in the parking
lot of a 24-hour convenience store run by a Pakistani couple, Nazeer (Ajay
Naidu) and Pakeeza (Samia
Shoaib). As the film opens, we find them there, drinking a few
beers, shooting the breeze, perfecting their well-practiced craft of
killing time. Jeff's girlfriend Sooze (Amie
Carey) and her friend Bee-Bee (Dina
Spybey) soon join the trio because an old high school chum, Pony (Jayce
Bartok), a successful rock musician, might be dropping by to visit.
Pony shows up in a stretch limo with his publicist Erica (Parker Posey),
and in short order, the tension and energy builds as each of the friends
react to Pony's success. As the group parties, rides in the limo and splinters
off, we follow a slow-burning fuse leading to the explosive ending.
